Learn to provide first aid, perform CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely and effectively. This course follows the American Heart Association Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED framework, teaching students how to recognize emergencies, respond with appropriate first aid measures, control life threatening bleeding using Stop the Bleed techniques, and deliver high quality CPR and AED use. All instruction reflects current AHA science based guidelines, and successful completion qualifies students for an AHA Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED Course Completion Card. Open to all majors. 1 credit (lecture), 5 weeks, fall and spring Semester.
Explore the principles of holistic health and the many factors that shape personal well being. This course examines the mind–body connection, the impact of stress and strategies to reduce it, and the roles of creativity, humor, and spirituality in healing. Students study complementary, alternative, and integrative health systems—from naturopathy and Traditional Chinese Medicine to massage therapy, chiropractic, and energy based practices—while also engaging with mind body modalities such as meditation, relaxation techniques, and visualization. Nutrition, exercise, herbal and aromatic therapies, and global perspectives on integrative care are woven throughout to provide a comprehensive understanding of holistic approaches to health. Offered fall and spring; 3 credits (3 lecture hours).
