Project Management (PRJM)

Introduces the tasks and challenges fundamental to project management. Topics include how to manage teams, schedules, risks, and resources to effectively achieve project objectives from time, cost, and quality perspectives. Case studies are incorporated into the course, allowing students to apply knowledge and skills associated with negotiating, selecting, initiating, planning, budgeting, scheduling, monitoring, controlling, and terminating a project. The implications of managing projects in an international setting are assessed and ethical principles in managing projects are evaluated in this course. 3 credits, Fall or Spring, Online. Develop an understanding of the functions and responsibilities of the operations department and operations manager in today's competitive environment and market demands of both product and service industries. The course will cover productivity, forecasting, design of goods and services, quality management, aggregate planning, inventory management, supply chain management, and lean operations. 3 credits, Fall or Spring, Online. Assesses and integrates project requirements in relation to user needs and organizational goals. Topics include requirements gathering, business analysis, and project planning. Case studies allow students to apply knowledge and skills to analyze business situations, develop requirements, and translate user needs into technology and engineering specifications for development teams. This course introduces business analysis functions from a project management perspective. How to define a problem, collecting data methods, and writing a project analysis plan are all covered. Investigate financial and success analytics, metrics, and the techniques associated with monitoring and controlling projects. You will examine the steps to monitor a project's progress and develop an assessment plan to measure the effectiveness of the project. Additional topics include scope, pricing, cost, trade-offs, learning curves, and quality management within a project environment. Selecting, evaluating, and communicating performance analytics and metrics are critical in successfully monitoring and controlling projects. This course provides an in-depth discussion of project management analytics and metrics and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and it explores related topics such as value-based project management analytics and metrics, dashboards, and measurement-driven project management. 3 credits, Fall or Spring, Online. Explores the intersection of the leadership and project management bodies of knowledge, focusing on how project managers can leverage an understanding of leadership to enhance project success. Students study facilitation, negotiation, teamwork, communication, presentation, interpersonal, and conflict management skills, specifically focusing on project management applicability. Apply leadership principles to specific project management situations within the context of the project life cycle. While doing this, you simultaneously perform a series of leadership self-assessments. These activities culminate in a Portfolio Project in which you demonstrate (a) an understanding of applying leadership principles as a project manager and (b) the ability to recognize and develop leadership opportunities. 3 credits, Fall or Spring, Online. Examines a systematic approach to project quality management. Through the main considerations for planning, managing, and controlling in project environments. This course will teach the foundational principles, methods, and tools to implement a systematic approach to business process and project quality management. Students will study Six Sigma, re-engineering, TQM strategy and data capture, and Theory of Constraints. Teaches the agile approach to project management. Students will also learn the fundamental and practical aspects of the agile approach, highlighting the value of customer-focused adaptive planning and collaborative effort. Project managers increasingly use the agile approach and utilize a Scrum framework for complex and team-centric projects. This course focuses on the fundamental and practical aspects of the agile approach, highlighting the value of customer-focused adaptive planning and collaborative effort. Examines the Project Management Office (PMO). Students will learn the tasks of a PMO, which include defining and maintaining standards, policies, processes, and methods for project management within the organization. Learners will also identify the responsibilities of the Project Management Professional (PMP) to include guidance, documentation, and metrics related to the practices involved in managing and implementing projects within the organization and contractors to ensure continuous improvement. 3 credits, Fall or Spring, Online. Provides students with an in-depth understanding of the procurement and risk management processes in financial and legal projects. The course also helps students evaluate and synthesize concepts within the domains of contract management and risk management, and helps students identify and assess recommended practices in contract management and purchasing. Topics primarily include risk-management planning, risk identification, risk analysis, risk-response strategies, risk monitoring, and risk control. In addition, the course covers the project manager's responsibilities in identifying and obtaining resources from vendors, as well as the legal requirements and contracting processes involved. 3 credits, Fall or Spring, Online. Prerequisite: PRJM 500, PRJM 520, PRJM 530 and Graduate Standing or instructor's approval.

Facilitates the student’s development of a project plan in a business of choice. Students will analyze project objectives in relationship to budget, schedule, and scope to propose a project with a full plan of implementation. The proposed plan must address strategies for overcoming challenges faced by similar projects. Students will utilize skills gained throughout the program to demonstrate the ability to plan and implement a project from conception to conclusion. 3 credits, Fall or Spring, Online. Prerequisite: PRJM 500, 4 other PRJM courses and Graduate Standing or instructor's approval.
