History & Political Science Minor
Major Code: HPOLThis minor is for students in a Bachelor’s degree program who also want to gain a better understanding of human societies through the study of the disciplines of history and political science.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the minor, students will be able to:
- Demonstrate college-level research and writing skills
- Identify and explain the significance of key people, ideas, and event in the history of a period or region
- Demonstrate knowledge of the development of distinctive features of various global regions and an understanding of challenges in maintaining stable and sustainable societies in them
- Demonstrate knowledge of key American institutions, the effect of these institutions on different groups, and the evolving relationship of the US with the world
- Analyze the role that complex networks of social structures and systems play in the creation and perpetuation of the dynamics of power, privilege, oppression, and opportunity; and
- Apply the principles of rights, access, equity, and autonomous participation to past, current, or future social justice action
Curriculum Requirements
A minimum of 15 credits is required for completion of the minor. Students must be enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in order to declare a minor.
